Event Information

Book 'Em

October 20, 2007

Make plans now to attend the 2007 Book 'Em Event, to be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Waynesboro High School in Waynesboro, Virginia.

This ground-breaking Book Fair highlighting the connection between illiteracy and high crime rates features dozens of authors who will be signing their books and giving talks on writing, the publishing industry, and other topics of interest throughout the day.

Admittance to the annual book event is free. The proceeds from the sale of the books goes to organizations dedicated to increasing literacy rates, decreasing crime rates, helping police solve crimes, and raising public awareness of the link between high illiteracy rates and high crime rates. The 2004 and 2005 events benefited the following charities: Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers, Friends of the Library from Waynesboro, Staunton, and Augusta County, and the Shenandoah Valley Reading Council.

March 26-30, 2008 - Virginia Festival of the Book

Festival of the Book Link

The Virginia Festival of the Book is a yearly event held in Charlottesville, VA. I believe there were over 22,000 people in attendance in 2004. Many authors, editors, agents, writers and would be authors were in attendance. Please check the website for information about the schedule of seminars once we get closer to March 2006. Most of the events are free to the public and I enjoyed each seminar that I attended.

My focus in 2004 was Publishing Day. I learned more than I can tell you. I highly recommend it to anyone who can attend.

During the 2005 sessions, I focused on the Crime Wave programs and met Laura Lippman, Linda Fairstein and Carol Higgins Clark.

In March 2006 I moderated a true crime forum with Dr. Bill Bass, Jon Jefferson, Diane Fanning and Noreen Reneir. It was very enjoyable and we got positive comments from the attendees. I also got to meet Jeffrey Deaver at the festival and he was incredibly nice and very approachable.
