Misty Cove - Some Details After you have gotten to know Kennalyn and some of the history of Misty Cove and the Stormy View lighthouse, I would like to invite you to take a walk back in time with me. Widow's Walk is the beginning of Lizbeth Sullivan's story. In October of 1841 the October Gale hits the Massachusetts coast. Lizbeth is on the verge of marrying her childhood sweetheart in October 1841. What will the storm mean for her family? When will she marry William? (Everyone who has read about William, is in love with him. Just a warning :) We see the early days of the Stormy View lighthouse and the problems that plagued the Light House Service in the early days. Can Lizbeth have the happy family see wants? I'll take you to the early days of the Jones family service for the Lighthouse Service in Lady Light Keeper. Lizbeth Sullivan Kinsey will take you on a courageous journey. Will you care for her like I do? She faces devastation in the early chapters of the book. Can she pick herself up and move forward in her life? All the time her children are growing up and getting into the usual mischief. Will she find a way to be a contributing member of Misty Cove? Can her new assistant Duncan Jones help her find her way back? In the future, I will begin the story of Lizbeth's son Aidan. He'll join a local regiment and travel along the east coast in the Civil War. His family must continue to live their lives while they worry and pray for his safe return. His story will be the subject of my fourth book which originates in Misty Cove, Mass. The working title for his story is Rebels & Rogues.
Misty Cove - Original Sketches These are some early sketches that I made to figure out the location and layout for Misty Cove. Initially I planned to call the town Cape Shore, but the name Misty Cove just wouldn't go away. The map on the left shows the Cape Ann area with Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester by the Sea and so on. The map shows the different areas that I considered for Misty Cove. Ironically after Stormy View was completed, I dug out one more map and discovered that the Eastern Point lighthouse is located in the area where I saw Stormy View lighthouse. I guess great minds think alike :)
The map on the right is a proposed street map for Misty Cove in the time period of Stormy View. Some of these roads will exist in Widow's Walk, but there will be another map for another book. The names of the street came about in a chat with writing friends from Writers Village. I would like to thank them for their help.
