The first morning of
Kristie’s vacation she jogs along the beach with her German shepherd, Lilah. At
the base of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, Lilah finds a human bone below the
sand dune. Kristie’s plans for a quiet week are forgotten as she joins in the
investigation. Ocean breezes blow across the Outer Banks of North Carolina and
Kristie uncovers a personal connection to the murder victim and her locket.

This story started out as a prize for a local fundraiser I developed for the Charlottesville/Albemarle SPCA. For full information about the event, click here. That is when I met Nathan, Kristie and Lilah. They are main characters in the book and you will learn about them as you read the story. I took some liberties for the story, but also stuck with the "character" information that they supplied for their name sakes. Nathan, Kristie and Lilah live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The cover for Lilah and the Locket is an original painting by a very talented local artist, Rachel Deragon, who also lives in the Shenandoah Valley. Her website address is:
I have future ideas for at least two more Outer Banks novellas which are set in the first half of the twentieth century.
